Svetlana Slapšak Elected New Honorary President of the City of Women

We are happy to announce that our annual general meeting of the City of Women Association has elected a new honorary president of the City of Women Association. The new honorary president is literary historian, anthropologist and classical philologist Svetlana Slapšak, PhD, who has replaced former president Eva D. Bahovec, PhD. Svetlana Slapšak is the author of numerous works in the fields of anthropology, linguistics, classical studies, gender studies, Balkan studies and comparative literature. She has published over 100 book volumes, 3000 articles and essays and over 500 scientific studies. Since 2014, she has been also (in addition to academic papers) publishing novels, travelogues, a libretto. For 23 years now, she has been writing a weekly column for the Saturday edition of the Maribor-based newspaper Večer. Since 1994, she has been editor-in-chief of the Belgrade newspaper for feminist culture ProFemina. Moreover, she has translated innumerable works from Latin, Greek and Ancient Greek, Franch and English, and also translates from Slovenian to Serbian. She was co-editor of the satirical newspaper Frontisterion, banned from the first issue, which was the reason why Svetlana Slapšak’s passport was confiscated for several years. In the past, she used to write columns for publications, such as Književna reč (Belgrade, 1983–1987), Vreme (Belgrade), Teleks (Ljubljana, 1988–90), Nezavisni (Novi Sad, 1995–1998).
