Survival Tactics for the 20th anniversary of the City of Women Festival

Between
October 2nd and 12th, the 20th International Festival of Contemporary Arts –
City of Women will take place at different venues in Ljubljana. This
year's trans-disciplinary festival under the title Survival Tactics will focus on the working conditions of artists, the
precariously employed and the self-employed in the world of arts and culture
who are confronted with ever-more harsh conditions of work. This difficult
environment particularly affects the sectors, where women account for the
majority of the labour force, a fact empirically proven in Slovenia over recent
years. After all, the quest for a 'winning' survival tactic has been a constant
requirement for festivals too, and City of Women is anything but an exception
is this respect.
The
overture to the 2014 festival will be events (round table, the film programme in
Slovenska Kinoteka, etc.) based around the festival's twentieth anniversary,
held in September at different venues.
The
20th City of Women festival will see the participation of the following female artists,
theoreticians and activists: Andreja Kulunčić, Nataša Živković, Neda Rusjan Bric, Larissa Sansour,
Raeda Saadeh, Mala Kline, Alexis O'Hara & Stephen Lawson, Mirel Wagner,
Marina Gržinić, Ngozi Onwurah, Nevline Nnaji, Silvia Federici, Bryony Kimmings,
