WOW AWARDS WERE PRESENTED!
wow awards
The first feminist awards ceremony took place as part of feminist events in March, where in addition to the WoW Awards, we also presented an " bodeča neža" anti- award for the most sexist statement of last season.
Out of 120 nominations, a five-member jury selected five winners! The first recipients of the WoW Awards became: a pioneer in working with female prisoners and active drug users Sabina Zorec; the director of the institute Pekarna Magdalenske mreže Urška Breznik; Initiative for Women with a Sense for Technology, Science and the Arts Č I P k e; a self-organized initiative that combats racism, sexism and the open borders No-Border Craft and the infamous feminist radio show Sector Ž!
The City of Women jury selected the winners on the basis of their work and contribution to the community, on the basis of their courage, dedication and determination, and their socially engaged action by those individuals and collectives who structurally have less access to public space in society and therefore receive less attention (among the nominees they searched for women on the basis of self-identification, that is, trans and intersex women).

10 March – 9 April 2020 /17:00 / Vegova ulica, Ljubljana
Exhibition Opening#VsakDan8Marec (#8MarchEveryDay)
TAM-TAM’s Street Gallery on Vegova is presenting an educationalproject #VsakDan8Marec (#8MarchEveryDay), held for years now by the Association for Promotion of Women in Culture – City of Women on International Women’s Day, targeting teachers, youth workers, parents and everyone who wishesto address the issue of gender (in)equality in dialogue with youth.
The exhibition #VsakDan8Marec was co-designed by Vesna Bukovec, Tea Hvala and Teja Reba. As a starting point, they used a quiz game by the same title, playfully encouraging elementary school and high school pupils to get acquainted with collective fights for equality and justice, the already acquired women’s rights and thefields in which gender inequality is still or ever more pressing. The quiz, for instance, tackles the series of events leading to ever worse poverty of elderly women inSlovenia: increasement of wage differences, enforcement of gender division in work, feminization of certain professions and general work precarity. Furthermore, the quiz#VsakDan8Marec showcases individual female characters – female women’s rightsactivists throughout history and contemporary times, female artists, scientists, inventors and other important female figures.
The free-of-charge pedagogical material for your own implementation of the#VsakDan8Marec quiz has been prepared by Ana Čigon, Tea Hvala, Urška Jež, Amela Meštrovac and Teja Reba and it is available here.
