erased gazes

In addition to Decoding Resilience, on 24th of May, it will also be possible to visit the Erased Gazes exhibition, which was also created as part of the BePart project. The memorial canvas was created during the workshops called Politics of Touch  led by Croatian visual artist selma banich in 2022. The memorial canvas was made of fabric rust-printed with objects harvested from the sites of past and present erasures (Krvova placa in Vinež, Metelkova in Ljubljana, Brodarski Institute in Zagreb), and slow-stitched, multicolored, collaboratively made eye-shaped embroidery that returns the gazes of the erased back to the world. The memorial is dedicated to those who were victims of administrative genocide (erasure) in 1992 in Slovenia and those who had to flee their homes due to war, economic crisis, discrimination, censorship and/or violence of the authorities. The memorial canvas is the result of a several-month-long artistic process based on horizontal community decision-making, exchange of knowledge, and the inclusion of different women who today call Ljubljana, Logatec or Zagreb their home.
