Display structure

For GDR GOES ON at the City of Women Festival, artist Ruth Buchanan has created a display system that operates as a support structure for the exhibited works, as well as an art work in its own right. While it pulls the works together, the structure also creates also space for a more “private” or “intimate” viewing of the art works. In this way, Buchanan gives a spatial presence to the notion of “the commons”, by creating an agonistic space that is both communal and solitary at the same time.
