FILM PROGRAMME
The film, whose title in Japanese means “snail”, is the first of three documentaries that Kawase dedicated to her grandmother, who was then 80 years old and who due to the absence of her parents, raised Naomi from her early years. Her mutual affection is clearly evident in every frame. Naomi follows her grandmother in her everyday gardening tasks, with her camera being constantly close to grandmother; sometimes so close that she literally forces in on her face and definitely close enough to be able to hold hands at any time. (Simon Popek)
